Judge Richard Knowles sentenced 53-year-old Bill Miller to ten months of supervised probation Thursday afternoon..
Miller had faced up to nearly three years in prison or a three thousand dollar fine.
Miller pleaded no contest to the tampering charges on July 16, 2003.
The charges stem from a moment in a police substation immediately following Miller’s February 12, 2001 arrest. Police had left Miller alone in a room in the Northeast Heights substation. While handcuffed, Miller reached inside his wallet and removed business cards which he began to eat.
Police witnessed him eating the cards on a closed circuit television monitor. Investigators rushed in to stop him from eating all of the paper. The incident was recorded on videotape.
